One category. A resource capacity planning revolution.

The story of PlanWerk is, in many ways, the story of modern software. It began with Sebastian Klett in Melbourne and grew into a team convinced that capacity planning deserved better.

The Origin

In July 2024, Sebastian Klett begins work on PlanWerk from his home office in Templestowe. His wife later describes this period as 'quite a lot of him talking about utilisation rates at dinner'.

Tom Joins

Sebastian recruits Tom Ross as Head of Gemini after a four-hour meeting at a Fitzroy café that generates one shared spreadsheet and a mutual understanding. Tom's first act is to water the office pot plant.

The Framework

By April, the core methodology has been mapped across two hundred and seventy sticky notes. This work forms the basis of what is now known internally, and only internally, as The Framework.

Q3 2025

Radical Simplification

The team relocates to a suburban garage for a period of what Sebastian later terms 'radical simplification'. Energy drinks are consumed. Whiteboards are covered. The photo becomes the cover image of a Medium article that receives little to no response from the wider public.

Q4 2025

The Keynote

Sebastian delivers the closing keynote at CapacityCon 2025, titled 'Beyond Utilisation: A New Grammar for Team Throughput'. The talk is met with what he later describes as 'the correct amount of applause'.

The Circuit

Sebastian appears on eleven podcasts across a six-week stretch, including two that are still in production. The resulting clips are shared, aggressively, on LinkedIn.

Tom Ross

HEAD OF GEMINI

Tom leads Gemini at PlanWerk, our AI strategy and adjacent thinking. He joined the company in early 2025 after spending eight months asking Sebastian to let him join. Previously, Tom held growth and product roles at three ecommerce companies of unremarkable size, and one of remarkable size that he is contractually prevented from naming. He has been working in AI since March 2025. Tom lives in Melbourne, and manages a portfolio of fourteen side projects, three of which have users.
